Provide constant supervision for young children and those who need assistance getting in and out of the bathtub or shower.
Test the water temperature before putting children into the bathtub.
Avoid flushing toilets, running the washing machine or dishwasher when the shower is in use to avoid temperature fluctuations.
Keep hot liquids, foods and appliances away from the edge of a table, counter or stove.
When cooking on the stove, give back burners priority and keep panhandles turned toward the back.
Never drink hot beverages or eat hot foods while holding a baby. If you drink coffee or hot tea at home, use a travel mug to prevent spills and burns.
Do not use tablecloths around young children as they could be tugged on causing severe scalds from hot liquids or food.
Install proper safety devices in the shower or tub, such as handles or floor grips, to prevent any slipping or falling. Be sure to keep the bathroom door closed when not in use.
Keep hot water bottles away from children as they have been known to burst, resulting in full-thickness burns.
