Honeywell's New Direct-Coupled Actuator Delivers 25 Percent More Torque Than Other Same Size Models

3/30/2009

MINNEAPOLIS, JANUARY 24, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced what is believed to be the most feature rich, competitively sized direct-coupled actuator (DCA) in its torque range on the market.

MINNEAPOLIS, JANUARY 24, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced what is believed to be the most feature rich, competitively sized direct-coupled actuator (DCA) in its torque range on the market. The new product, the Zelix™ Spring Return Low-Torque Direct-Coupled Actuator (DCA), packs in 25% more torque—44 lb in—than comparably sized competitive models.

“Contractors will appreciate the fact that the Zelix DCA weighs less and is easier and quicker to install,” said Jeff Kirkwold, product manager, Honeywell. “Using this actuator on larger dampers saves money because contractors don’t have to buy a larger, more costly actuator.”

The new actuator expands Honeywell’s broad actuator portfolio. “This is important because it means contractors and consulting engineers can get all the actuators they need for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) applications from Honeywell,” said Kirkwold. The company’s complete DCA platform, for example, consolidates the capabilities of all brands of existing low-torque spring-return actuator platforms currently used by most customers in general HVAC settings.

Key features and important benefits of the Zelix DCA and of Honeywell’s actuator offering include:

·        Mode selector allows one model to operate in many different applications, which simplifies selection and reduces inventory. The mode can be selected with a screw driver rather than a computer. “With Honeywell actuators, you simply turn a dial,” said Kirkwold.

·        Wiring access cover, a Honeywell-unique feature, eliminates the need for a conduit wiring junction box, reduces installation time and material and provides conduit connection on all models.

·        Self-centering shaft adaptor grabs the shaft with single screw turn instead of requiring the use of a difficult U-bolt.

·        Honeywell standard wiring saves time because this DCA wires the same as all other Honeywell actuators. “Once you wire one, you can wire them all,” Kirkwold said.

Honeywell is a world leader in controls for buildings. Its products, components and systems deliver temperature control, comfort, energy conservation and safety in more than five million buildings worldwide.
