New Features and Upgrades - Spyder

Spyder™ Sylk™ Enhanced

We have extended Spyder’s reach with the new Sylk Enhanced version.

The SpyderSylkEnhanced has a two-wire polarity insensitive bus providing support for the new Zio LCD wall module. Zio is truly the latest in LCD digital technology that delivers amazing flexibility and quick access to system information.

Additionally, the new SpyderSylkEnhanced controllers provide the flexibility that you could only previously get from units priced hundreds of dollars higher. You’ll reduce your installation, programming and servicing time all while using a controller that adapts to your air-handling needs rather than forcing you to buy a more expensive model. Plus, with the new addition of a two-wire, polarity-insensitive bus — the Sylk — you can easily use the new Honeywell ZioLCD wall module for even more flexibility.

The new Spyder Controller 1.16 takes full advantage of NiagaraAX  3.2 with added features that support better workflow

 Download Today

Download the new Spyder Tool from the Buildings Forum for immediate use.  Your local Authorized Systems Distributor (ASD) or your Commercial Honeywell Representative can also assist in providing a copy of the tool or help with any of your control needs.

Easy VAV Balancing

Spyder Sylk Enhanced VAV controllers use Honeywell RapidBalance3.0 for VAV box balancing. RapidBalance is a standalone, easy-to-use, PC-based software program with the ability to drive multiple VAVs to maximum or minimum flow setpoint, as well as drive water valves open or closed for water balancing. This allows all Honeywell Excel 10 VAV controllers and Spyder VAV controllers to be balanced using one simple box.

   Multiple Application Support

Multiple applications are now supported at every level of the programming architecture.  This means that no longer does the programmer need to worry that their work will be erased by accidentally dropping an application onto an existing program. Moreover, it means that completely dissimilar applications can coexist on the same wire sheet. A VAV air handler application can exist with a boiler sequencing application. All with added flexibility to speed up programming and reduce rework.

 Forcing of Individual Simulation Points

No longer do all the points in a simulation need to be forced from one screen.  Now points can be forced right from the wire sheet. By allowing points to be forced from the wire sheet new points can be easily added and existing points can be quickly changed.

 Full Download Support Control

Customer feedback was such that the user wanted to be able to control the type of download to the controller. The new Spyder Tool 1.16 now supports both full smart/partial downloading.

 Increased Spyder Controllers per Network

We were able to take advantage of features in Niagara 3.2 that allowed us to increase the number of Spyder controllers on a WEB’s controller supporting the Spyder Tool.  Testing has indicated that a WEB’s 403 controller with PVL6438N controllers running a standard VAV application was able to support over 60 controllers. This is approximately a threefold increase in the number of controllers previously supported by the same device.

 Increased Download Support

Support was added to reduce failures during the download process. During download some controllers would lock up and reject new programs. The tool automatically checks for problems during download and will fix suspected controllers. This reduces install time for technicians trying to fix problems with continuous subsequent downloads.

 Reduced Time for Commissioning

Field reports were identifying increased commissioning times for Spyder controllers.  The tools team focused on this issue found ways to significantly reduce these times. Again this a key feature to reduce a technician’s time on a project allowing them to be more productive.
